Endgame Summary:
Germany deserves this victory though not having played at top speed. Especially due to a firm defense, no doubt arose that the Europeans would beat the North Americans with too many difficulties. During the first half, Löw’s men had the better chances but played too sloppy. Again and again they tried to score by crossing from the sides. In the second half, Schweinsteiger and friends played more direct and came closer to score every minute. In the pouring rain of Recife, Müller was decisive to score the 1:0 and secure the never endangered victory for the big favorite. The USA will not have a hard time overcoming this defeat – they will continue playing the tournament. The Germans were not convincing, the following games will show how good they really are.

Full-Time
90'
Four minutes extra time, both teams are about to climb up to the next round.
89'
Dempsey has a great chance to score! But his header from close-range after a rebound does not find its way into the goal. This was the biggest chance for equalisation.
89'
London-internatl substitution: Schürrle from Chelsea is sent to to the pitch to replace Arsenal's Özil.
89'
Substitution (in) Germany -> André Schürrle
89'
Substitution (out) Germany -> Mesut Özil
86'
Götze lobs a nice ball forward through to Klose. But the all time goal scorer is unable to control the ball. Anyways, the ref decided on offside.
84'
Zusi, who ran up and down and who was maybe the best player of his team next to Howard, is substituted by Yedlin.
84'
Substitution (in) USA -> DeAndre Yedlin
84'
Substitution (out) USA -> Graham Zusi
82'
Good news for the Americans! Portugal took the lead against Ghana. Both Portugal and the Klinsmann team have four points, but the USA have a far better total goal score.
81'
Well, at least an attempt... Özil shoots from a similar position where Müller got lucky. But absolutely no difficulty at all for Howard.
79'
Since Müller scored there was not one shot on goal on either of the goals. This is not exactly what we want to see now...
76'
That's interesting! Löw does not take away an offensive player in order to defend the 1:0. No, he's still longing for another goal setting Mario Götze free to stir the sleepy game up. Let's see how this works.
76'
Substitution (in) Germany -> Mario Götze
76'
Substitution (out) Germany -> Bastian Schweinsteiger
74'
Three US boys were injured during the last minutes. First, Dempsey, who is playing with a broken nose, keeps on lying in the grass. Then former Schalke roughneck Jones and Bedoya suffer from a crash. Jones is bleeding from the nose and will have to take a little break.
70'
The USA are actually risking a lot by not risking anything here on the pitch. Losing against Germany would mean giving away the chance to promote out of their own powers. Still, they would be in because of the draw in the parallel encounter between Portugal and Ghana.
68'
Neuer saves it in the risky way. A return pass from Boateng is quite short but the Bayern goal keeper is fast enough to control it. Set under pressure by Zusi he makes a short dribbling and then clears the situation...
65'
Nothing's happening here. The USA tries to come a little bit closer to the German goal but is too sloppy to make some well-timed linked moves.
62'
Kyle Beckerman (USA) is shown a yellow card
Finally, Beckerman who was almost begging to receive the yellow card, was booked after a challenge against Schweinsteiger.
59'
Klinsmann reacts and brings in Nantes Alejandro Bedoya. Brad Davis leaves. This means that the strategic outline is not changed.
59'
Substitution (in) USA -> Alejandro Bedoya
59'
Substitution (out) USA -> Brad Davis
57'
This 1:0 was about to be scored. No chance for Howard, the USA have to react. Ithough, the news are coming in that Ghana equalized. This means that USA would still be in the next round.
55'
Goooal for Germany, 0:1 by Thomas Müller
Short corner is centred by Kroos. Hummels' header is amazingly saved by Howard. But Müller gets the rebound waiting at the border to the box. From a central position he does not hesitate and smashes it in. Great goal by the German top scorer.
52'
Klose about to score his 16th goal! The cross by Schweinsteiger is a little bit too soft and Klose cannot add much pressure. His header is right from the goal.
51'
As predicted, the USA are fighting for not letting Germany score. Up front there is nothing going on.
49'
And again the Germans' not-anymore-secret weapon: Boateng centres from the right, Özil is standing between the six yard box and the penalty point. But he is not the guy for headers - Matt Besler clears before the Arsenal midfielder can touch the ball.
46'
It's going on! Löw consolidates the central offense by bringing Klose into the game. Podolski has to leave.
46'
Substitution (in) Germany -> Miroslav Klose
46'
Substitution (out) Germany -> Lukas Podolski

Second Half begins

Halftime Summary:
The encounter between Germany and the USA is not the nicest match of the World Cup. There are many reasons for this besides the neverending rainfalls in Recife. Due to the fact that both teams would qualify for the round of 16 with a draw there is not much risk taken by the players of both sides. The Germans had the better occasions and tried to score right away at the beginning of the game with nice moves across the wings. But Müller, who was each time close to bury it, is blocked excellently by the US-American central backs. Klinsmann's team in exchange had no really big chances. Only a shot from long-range by Zusi is to be reported. This missed the goal by few centimeters. We hope, that there are some goals in the second half. But as Portugal is in lead, the USA will do everything to not concede a goal.

Half-Time
44'
After felt hours, there's another chance for USA earning a corner. But this is centred too high and passes by all US-boys. It's most probably staying at zero goals until the break.
40'
Jogi's folks are back on the driving seat! Another dangerous cross is cleared only with troubles by the always attentive goalkeeper Howard. He develops into the best American player which says everything about the game.
37'
Omar González (USA) is shown a yellow card
After a challenge against Schweinsteiger the central back earns yellow.
35'
Best chance of the match by Mesut Özil! Entering the box from the right he has only one defender in front of him. He pretends to go on the left but shoots through the legs of his counterpart. But Howard makes a great save.
33'
It's a complete stand-off at the moment. Both teams present themselves highly concentrated and do not permit their opponent to unfurl.
31'
Good effort by Kroos who tries his luck from the left side! Not seeing the next free player he decides to smash it hard against the goal. But Howards, who has free sight to the ball, has no problems catching it.
30'
The balance between the forces is reached again and therefore both teams are currently neutralising each other. There are spaces until one team reaches the last quater of the pitch, but then it's getting sticky.
27'
Boateng is very active but is quite unlucky with his last passes. One time they are just blocked, the other time he does not take an exact view to the middle in order to find Müller or any other player.
25'
The USA is getting firmer at their back and begin to attack. Sometimes it seems too easy how they break through Germany's defensive lines, but the North Americans still lack quality to create big chances.
22'
Good interception by Jones who directly initiates the counter attack. He passes to the left were Kansas City's Graham Zusi makes a fast and short dribbling and aims well. Only few millimeters divide zero from glory - no goal albeit this marvellous effort!
19'
First move forward by Dempsey and friends leading to a semi-chance for those dressed in white. But the strike is not worth its name, the ball rolls away without any need for Neuer to interfere.
18'
Nothing to report from Klinsmann's eleven. They are much to afraid to take the initiative and have hardly been out of their own half. Their German coach is getting nervous.
14'
The US-Boys are pinned down to their back! The Central Europeans are dangerous when launching their attacks from the wings. But until now, Müller is blocked very well. Also in this situation in which Boateng centres from the right. Already the fourth of its kind.
11'
Benedikt Höwedes (Germany) is shown a yellow card
First foul, first booking! The Schalke central stops a counter attack rudely and earns this card.
10'
Özil brings the corner to Kroos, who is waiting alone on the border to the box. He tries to smash it in but hits it incorrectly. Right afterwards Özil remaining still on the right crosses again. This would be a great chance to score the first goal but the two defenders Mertesacker and Höwedes step on each other's toes rather than burying it right away.
8'
Next chance for the Löw's guys: Podolski and Özil pass it one-two. Then Özil crosses it but does not find Müller's feet.
5'
Nice pass from left to right where Boateng takes the ball directly. But he centres too unprecisely and Howard catches the ball.
4'
Germany plays a balanced game with a lot of possession and control. USA do not have much to say until now.
1'
First shot! A cross comes along Müller's way who fails to hit the ball with a attended bicycle kick. Then Podolski misses high and wide from the left side of the box.
1'
And it's on! Kick off is done, the teams are getting active!

Kick-Off
Jürgen Klinsmann, who predicted to sing both the American as well as the German anthem, also nominates two fresh players. Omar González comes to replace Geoff Cameron, committed two terrible mistakes against Portugal. On the left, Brad Davis will get his chance. Both players are busy in the domestic Major League Soccer, the first at Klinsmann's former club L.A. Galaxy, the latter at Houston Dynamo.
In the German starting eleven there are two big news: Khedira and Götze are left on the bench, Arsenal's Podolski and Bayern's Schweinsteiger are thrown in. Podolski will be responsible to put pressure over the left wing, "Schweini" will try to array the central pitch which was much too hectical against Ghana. The settlement of the ball and patience with the ball will be crucial against the North Americans.
In Germany, people are still struggling with the two unnecessary, but, however, deserved goals by Ghana. "We conceded two goals we should never have conceded. It was a very difficult game overall", said Mario Götze. Despite the danger that this game could end up in a Gijon-alike encounter (in 1982 Austria and Germany settled on a draw and did not attack each other throughout the whole game) the European's second coach has recorded that "Our intention is to win this game. With this task we send our players to the pitch, everything else does not come to our mind. We know, that the USA are at a high level physically and that they defend well against the ball. Knowing that we are prepared to encounter this qualities with our technical strengths."
This is underlined by Hoffenheim's Fabian Johnson who says that "It's just not in our nature to play for a draw.”. Knowing his opponent like the back of his hand he further warns: “I think everybody can see that Germany has a great team, great individual players,” said Johnson. “I think they're technically good, they try to play straight to the goal. We have to defend as a whole unit again, like we did against Portugal, and we're going to create our chances.”.
The US-Americans are surprisingly well situated after two match days. Also for Stars and Stripes it would suffice to draw against the big favourite, though having to play against the winner of group H, which would be the evil Red Devils from Belgium as of now. But, as we know, the nation of infinite possibilities will follow its premise of "no risk, no fun".
As mentioned, all four teams still have realistic chances to ascend to the round of 16. Germany has the best starting position to do so with a plus four goal difference and four points on its accounts. Jogi Löw therefore simply needs a draw to resume the first round of Brazil 2014 as winner. Of course, the Germans want than that against their former coach, Jürgen Klinsmann.
Welcome, football fans, to group G's clash Germany versus the United States of America! It couldn't be more exciting today, all for teams of the group still have chances to move forward to the next round. The selections with the most promising prerequisites for these ends, i.e., points and goals, are battling in the Arena Cidade da Copa of the marvellous town of Recife. Kick off will be at 5 p.m. - we wish you great fun with the game!
