Fulltime Summary:
The idea to simply skip this game doesn't look as bad after all. Brazil pretty much continued where it had left off against Germany, the Netherlands benefited from awful officiating and a capital error early and the Seleção simply couldn't challenge the opponents in the remainder. The game consequently developed into a boring affair, the Dutch didn't need to do anything and Algerian referee Haimoudi continued to add strange decisions to his résumé. The game fittingly concluded with an unsportsmanlike move by Louis van Gaal, who subbed in his third goalie just to give him a cap. This game will soon be forgotten and we can be sure that the final will be way more thrilling tomorrow!

Full-Time
90'
Probably the controversial Louis van Gaal just wants to give third keeper Michel Vorm his World Cup cap, but this is not sportsmanlike. The ensuing boos are well justified.
90'
Substitution (in) Netherlands -> Michel Vorm
90'
Substitution (out) Netherlands -> Jasper Cillessen
90'
Five minutes of added time by the way.
90'
Goooal for Netherlands, 0:3 by Georginio Wijnaldum
Like you needed more evidence that it's easy against this Brazilian defense, Robben sends the overlapping Daryl Janmaat down the right side and the substitute delivers a fine cross to the midfielder, who is all by himself and has no problems finishing form eight yards.
90'
Louis van Gaal has to make one late change because Jordy Clasie is injured.
90'
Substitution (in) Netherlands -> Joël Veltman
90'
Substitution (out) Netherlands -> Jordy Clasie
88'
Hulk and Ron Vlaar exchange words and that might be the most passion we've seen from all Brazil players today.
87'
The Netherlands are milking clock and slowly Brazil is accepting the result as well.
85'
Hulk delivers a set-piece but the dutch remain dominant in the air.
82'
Robben goes down inside the box again and, but no whistle this time.
81'
Jasper Cillessen has had a largely quite evening and picks off another cross easily as well.
81'
It's safe to assume there won't be a miracle comeback from the Seleção given that the Dutch defense thwarts any danger whatsoever.
80'
Some fans are trying to avoid traffic and start to empty the stands.
79'
The pace of the game is starting to decrease further because the guests are not even attempt to counter right now.
77'
Brazil had numbers for a second, but Hulk is looking for his own shot and eventually runs into a wall named de Vrij.
75'
Hulk gets to work rather quick and fires a hammer towards goal form 18 yards, but misses wide and high.
74'
Willian has some space in midfield, but is easily tackled.
73'
Hulk came to life in the quarter final a little and may be able to provide a spark late.
72'
Substitution (in) Brazil -> Hulk
72'
Substitution (out) Brazil -> Ramires
71'
Georginio Wijnaldum gets into Robben's way in the penalty area and takes away a potentially great chance from the Bayern man.
71'
Ironically the defender has injured himself from the "dive" and "no contact" and has to be strechered away.
70'
Substitution (in) Netherlands -> Daryl Janmaat
70'
Substitution (out) Netherlands -> Daley Blind
69'
That's the third major mistake by Haïmoudi and one can be sure that the Algerian won't be seen another time in a major tournament.
68'
Oscar (Brazil) is shown a yellow card
Jesus, this referee... Oscar speeds by Daley Blind and is obviously brought down. Oscar surely tries to initiate and falls from light contact, but this one should have been a penalty.
66'
How much confidence has David Luiz lost this tournament? It will surely be interesting how the centre back will settle into his new role in Paris as he continues to perform shaky.
64'
Home fans are lobbying for a penalty as Vlaar blocks a cross from Maicon, but the referee is rightfully unimpressed.
63'
This time it's indeed David Luiz taking the shot, but the centre back can't redo his magic from the game against Mexico and the ball safely sails into Cillessen's mitts.
62'
Maicon bullies through the middle and earns a free-kick from 25 yards.
60'
Ramires! The winger utilizes a tiny space through the middle and gets a shot off that sails just wide of the left post.
59'
The sad thing about this Brazilian team: They are really trying.
58'
Replacement Hernanes is well late against Robben and should have been booked seconds after his substitution.
58'
Fernandinho exits after a subpar showing.
57'
Substitution (in) Brazil -> Hernanes
57'
Substitution (out) Brazil -> Paulinho
56'
Oscar continues to try to fuel his team, he just has so little support.
56'
It's not really defending Fred, but replacement Jô has yet to shoot on the goal.
54'
Fernandinho (Brazil) is shown a yellow card
The City player is late against United's van Persie.
53'
The Dutch defense stands firm against all attempts.
52'
The hosts continue to push forward, but they remain uninspired as well.
50'
The corner comes to nothing and the Chelsea man faces another speedy challenge on the other side as he has to hunt Robben in transition. The Bayern man is stopped with a free-kick, gets his chance seconds later anyway, but is blocked from a tight angle.
49'
Ramires accelerates through the middle, but his final touch into the box is loose and the guests can clear for a corner.
47'
Probably useless to say that Brazil needs an early goal, both for the scoreboard and their confidence.
46'
The second half starts with a surprising change, because Luiz Gustavo was indeed one of the better performing midfielders the Seleção had to offer.
46'
Second Half begins
46'
Substitution (in) Brazil -> Fernandinho
46'
Substitution (out) Brazil -> Luiz Gustavo
45'
Halftime Summary:
Brazil looked more lively today and had encouraging approaches, but awful officiating and yet another capital error by David Luiz set up an uphill battle for the Seleção in the second half. The Netherlands are only doing what they have to, but are still able to mostly contain the opposing front line. The bright spot for the hosts has been Oscar, the Chelsea man drew a lot of fouls and delivered dangerous set-pieces into the box. Stay tuned!
45'
Half-Time
45'
De Guzmán brings Jordy Clasie into play on the left, but the cross can't reach Robin van Persie in the middle.
45'
We're entering two minutes of stoppage time.
45'
No it's Oscar who curls the ball into the wall. Maxwell then places the second attempt well high.
44'
Ramires is treated outside while the preparations for the free-kick continue. Looks like David Luiz might be the man again.
43'
This should have been the next booking as Ron Vlaar is well late against Ramires, but at least the next dangerous set-piece is developing.
41'
Robin van Persie tests Júlio César from distance, but the keeper has no problems here.
41'
Let's say the hosts have shown some encouraging signs throughout, but they need that breakthrough.
40'
Dirk Kuyt goes down from an aerial challenge, but is able to continue.
38'
So close! It's again the Chelsea man that is brought down and then delivers the low cross from the right. David Luiz nearly gets to the ball at the far post, but is inches short in his attempt to tap it into an empty net.
36'
Jonathan de Guzmán (Netherlands) is shown a yellow card
Consequently the hosts earn multiple free-kicks. Oscar is very lively so far and forces the next booking in midfield.
36'
Another cross comes to nothing for Brazil, who still look more and more dangerous on the wings.
35'
The Netherlands try to get out in transition, but sloppy passing prevents any danger.
34'
Oscar delivers another dangerous cross into the danger area, but Brazil is not quite able to apply the final touch off their set-pieces so far.
33'
Maicon is earning a free-kick at the edge of the box and sarcastically pointing to the penalty spot. It was outside of course, but a pun was probably intended.
32'
Meanwhile the spectators are having fun and doing the wave.
31'
You can sense that a goal by the yellow shirts could change the scenery significantly, but they are not getting close.
30'
The defensive effort from Brazil remains lackluster. Robben has way too much space on the right wing and squares to De Guzman, whose shot is well high.
29'
Oscar wins a dangerous free-kick at the edge of the box on the right side and delivers the cross himself. David Luiz goes for the header in the box, but isn't able to get enough contact on the ball.
27'
Willian tracks down a long ball on the right side and earns cheering from the stands. Nothing evolves form it though.
25'
At least the hosts are starting to look more engaged and are able to play through the Dutch lines here and there.
23'
Maybe Brazil needs that individual brilliance to get going. Maicon bullies through the middle, but sees his shot blocked at the edge of the box.
21'
Finally some magic! Oscar cuts to the middle from the right and shakes off multiple defenders with nifty moves before releasing a nice shot towards goal. Jasper Cillessen it up to the task and dives for it convincingly.
20'
Strangely Brazil is spiked with elite talent and international expertise, but as a team it just doesn't work.
19'
Brazil tries to get into their offense again, but they look helpless and pretty much continue where they've left off against Germany.
17'
Fittingly Jonathan de Guzmán, who delivered the preceding cross, was offside. Awful officiating so far.
16'
Goooal for Netherlands, 0:2 by Daley Blind
But there is absolutely nothing the fans can do if David Luiz heads a clearance straight to the left back, who calmly finishes from twelve yards.
16'
The crowd is back into the game and it's getting louder.
15'
The hosts are searching for the gap in the tight midfield. The Netherlands are sitting deep and don't seem too concerned.
13'
The Dutch pressing looks halfhearted at the moment as only Robin van Persie challenges the defense. Meanwhile Oscar can't get a whistle on the left after being brought down.
12'
Brazil's offense has looked stagnant at best throughout and someone has to take on responsibility.
10'
Oscar is the danger man for Brazil again, this time he can't reach Jô with his cross.
9'
Arjen Robben (Netherlands) is shown a yellow card
Not the smartest play from the Golden Ball nominee as Robben brings down Paulinho to cut off a counterattack.
8'
Seems like the Dutchman will now settle for counterattacks and look what the Seleção has to offer.
7'
The goal sucked all atmosphere out of the stands, but the crowd is slowly recovering.
6'
The hosts try to shake off the early deficit, Oscar accelerates down the left side and delivers a dangerous cross, but Ramires cannot get to it.
4'
That's quite a start from an officiating standpoint. Ironically the fourth official is Nishimura, who started the tournament with a major error himself by rewarding a Fred dive with a penalty.
3'
Goooal for Netherlands, 0:1 by Robin van Persie
The United striker confidently finishes into the top right corner.
2'
Thiago Silva (Brazil) is shown a yellow card
The second misjudgment by the Algerian ref. Silva was the last one to beat for Robben and this should have been a send-off.
2'
Penalty to Netherlands! Robben delivers an early shocker, but Jamel Haimoudi has this one wrong! The Munich player outpaces Thiago Silva after being served by van Persie. Robben cuts in front of the captain and is clearly brought down, but outside the box.
1'
The first possessions belong to the guests, who poke the ball around in their own half.
1'
And we're underway.
1'
Kick-Off
Wesley Sneijder is a late scratch for the guests with a muscular problem. He is replaced with Jonathan de Guzmán.
Brazil or Netherlands? Either way, this should be an entertaining one! Stay tuned for the kickoff.
The Seleção surely will have to win back the crowd, but deserves a proper goodbye anyway. They clearly were unable to shoulder the immense load, but overall the team lacked quality in all areas and did the best they could. We can probably also hope that some of those anxious approaches we've seen in the knockout stage are loosened for this final game. The teams are able to celebrate an attacking style and should be more willing to show it today.
Other than the opposition, Luiz Felipe Scolari shakes up his team on six positions. Next to the returning captain Maxwell will start as left back, Paulinho in the defensive midfield and the coach finally decides to give other players a go in the offense as well, which was more than stagnant even with Neymar throughout. Willian and Ramires will work the wings replacing Bernard and disappointing Hulk and Jô comes on for Fred, who is probably also being spared from more ill-treatment from the stands.
Luiz Felipe Scolari tried to shift focus on today's task rather than looking back to the embarrassment. The third place was a much smaller dream than they wanted, but they had to move on and take pride in wearing the shirt of the national team, the coach said in front of the game. At least Brazil can once again count on Thiago Silva, who was severely missed in the semi due to a suspension and will start again today.
The full lineups can be found here.
The difference maker for tonight could very well be the motivation going into a rather meaningless matchup. Dutch Coach Louis van Gaal initially dismissed the game as a match which should never be played, but fields his best team anyway, because he wants to finish the tournament unbeaten - something a Dutch side has never achieved. The only change to the semis is Jordy Clasie, who replaces Nigel de Jong in midfield.
Could there have been two more diverse semis? Brazil was absolutely leveled in an incredible 1-7 rout against superior Germany and between tears, shame and disbelief the Seleção had trouble holding their heads high. Oranje suffered a heartbreaking loss as well, but after a boring encounter in the penalty shootout against uninspired Argentine.
Janosch Ferda is commentating for you. Enjoy!
Welcome to the third place play-off in Brazil! The hosts take on the Netherlands in search of restoring their battered reputation in capital Brasília.
