Fulltime Summary:
A strong finish was enough for France to secure a place in the quarter finals tonight against a Nigerian side that lacked energy to come back from the late deficit. The Africans showed the poise and fighting spirit that let them survive group stage, but could never consistently threaten Hugo Lloris. Another favorite passed a stern test today without being fully dominant and France now awaits its opponent from Germany versus Algeria in about two hours. Stay tuned!

Body languages from Nigeria is bad though, France has little trouble to keep the ball away from their own box.
90'
Speaking of stoppage time: It's five minutes! Seems high but we'll take the thrill.
90'
Keshi brings on fresh legs for his offense in search of the equalizer. Meanwhile Didier Deschamps has two substitutes left to stop the play and we can be sure he'll use them in stoppage time.
89'
Substitution (in) Nigeria -> Uche Nwofor
89'
Substitution (out) Nigeria -> Victor Moses
88'
"Allez Les Blues" from the stands, but the majority has been on Nigeria's side today. It might not help after all.
87'
France is already milking some clock and cleverly poke the ball around.
85'

84'
Victor Moses feels like a cross may have touched Mathieu Debuchy's arm inside the area, but it's rightfully waved off by the referee.
83'
Finally we're seeing glances of the French team that stomped through the group stage! Griezmann is brought into play on the left with a nice diagonal pass and sees his effort tipped over the top by Enyeama.
81'
Can Nigeria find an answer? The goal had been coming for Deschamps' side that gradually improved since the Griezmann substitution.
79'
Goooal for France, 1:0 by Paul Pogba
France has upped the tempo and France has earned the lead! The ensuing corner is misjudged by Enyeama and Pogba nods it into an empty net.
78'
Nigeria needs to regain their stability now as Benzema heads another dangerous ball towards goal and Enyeama touches it over the top.
77'
France is getting closer! The favorite does not let up and Cabaye hits the crossbar.
76'
One corner leads to another for France and on the far post the ball slips through to Benzema, whose low-driven effort from a tight angle is cleared by a defender inside the six yard box.
74'
Does this mark the start of a strong finish for France? The Équipe is applying more and more pressure.
72'
Antoine Griezmann's injection might pay off as he looks way more lively than Giroud.
70'
Benzema has to provide the lead! A brilliant one-two with Antoine Griezmann sends the Madrid star into the box, whose shot is initially blocked by Enyeama but bounces goalwards anyway. Moses is back in time to clear off the line!
68'
Ahmed Musa is released into the left penalty area with a through-ball, but his cross is deflected out. The ensuing corner is poorly executed and sails over everyone for a throw-in.
66'
Matthieu Valbuena delivers a free-kick into the box, but France forces are completely outnumbered and can't get to the ball.
64'
Odemwingie cuts into the middle form the right and releases a ferocious shot onto the goal. Lloris may have seen that one through multiple defenders late, but still is comfortably able to make the save.
62'
Olivier Giroud couldn't convince today and Benzema probably will move into the centre forward spot in the remainder. Can the substitute inject some pace and playmaking to his side?
62'
Substitution (in) France -> Antoine Griezmann
62'
Substitution (out) France -> Olivier Giroud

Substitution (in) Nigeria -> Reuben Shalu Gabriel
59'
Substitution (out) Nigeria -> Ogenyi Onazi
58'
France gets out in transition, but while they continue to have room on the flanks, their crosses remain imprecise as well.
57'
Aerial balls from both teams have been subpar at best and this corner from Nigeria is no exception.
56'
It's again Onazi who took the hit and has to be carried away. Other than in the first half though, the midfielder now is definitely finished for today.
54'
Blaise Matuidi (France) is shown a yellow card
The midfielder is well late with a challenge in midfield and is rightfully booked for that boisterous tackle.
53'
Raphaël Varane has injured himself in the last sequence and is taken outside for examination.
52'
Victor Moses receives a fine ball over the top into the right penalty area, has support, but is exclusively looking for his own shot and runs into a wall of defenders.
51'
He isn't back for the next corner of France though, but a teammate heads it away.

47'
Giroud wrestles through on the left flank in a first approach, but his cross flies untouched through the box.

Second Half begins

Halftime Summary:
Although the game offered a faster pace than the ones we saw yesterday, chances are hard to come by today as well. France had some success working the flanks, but the crosses from mostly Matthieu Valbuena and Blaise Matuidi can't find forwards Benzema and Giroud. Nigeria physically shut down midfield and tried to get out in transition, but outnumbered they were limited to some individual efforts. Stay tuned!

Half-Time
45'
The clock runs down without another approach although France has one final setpiece and so we're heading into the break!
45'
We're entering two minutes of stoppage time.
44'
This time the French keeper has to punch one away as Emenike challenges him form the edge of the box. Moses picks up the rebound but is whistled for a handball.
41'
Ahmed Musa slices to the defense way to easy, but can't challenge Hugo Lloris with his shot.
39'
Debuchy misses wide! Matuidi creates space with a neat fake in midfield and sets up Matthieu Valbuena on the right. His cross into the danger area is fired towards goal by the full back and from 15 yards he should have delivered that one on target at least.
38'
Real chances are hard to come by though and for that matter this match continues where most of the knockout games left off.
36'
The favorite more and more controls possession and keeps the African Nation Cup winner busy in its half.
34'
Paul Pogba intercepts not one but two sloppy passes from Nigeria in quick succession, but France is unable to exploit this wild sequence by the African defense.
32'
The combinations from France are fluid, they just can't get that last pass to a teammate right now. Blaise Matuidi wins another corner on the left, but Varane can't gather the long delivery.
31'
Odemwingie lays a ball off to Ambrose, who rushes into the box but sees his shot blocked by a white shirt.
29'
France might be the more skilled side, but Nigeria is winning the battle in midfield so far and draws a lot of fouls that way.
27'
France finds space down both flanks continuously and this time Valbuena just misses Karim Benzema at the edge of the six yard box with his cross, who had slipped coverage and was unmarked.
25'
The pace of the game remains fairly high. Both teams try to get into their offense as quick as possible.
23'
Paul Pogba is a future star of France for some spectators and he surely showed superb speed and ball-handling here.
22'
What s save by Vincent Enyeama! A superb run by Paul Pogba through midfield sets up Matthieu Valbuena on the right who delivers the delayed one-two right back to the Juventus man inside the box. Somehow the keeper get a hand on the hard volley from 12 yards and deflects it wide.
20'
On the other side Karim Benzema is also caught offside as he had clear sight of the goal after a decent cross from the right.
18'
Disallowed goal by Nigeria! Emenike pokes home a low delivery from the left side from close range, but was clearly offside.
17'
On the other end Odemwingie earns another set-piece for his team, Emmanuel Emenike goes for goal from 25 yards but it sails over the crossbar.
16'
Didn't look good at first, but Onazi returns for the Super Eagles while Benzema finds space in the left side and squares the ball to Olivier Giroud at the edge of the box. The Arsenal striker tries to aim for the top-left corner, but his effort is well high and wide.
15'
After the short break Nigeria delivers the free-kick to the far post, but no danger evolves.
13'
Meanwhile Lazio's Ogenyi Onazi is down at the edge of Nigeria's penalty area and it doesn't look like he will be able to continue. He is stretchered away and we are not exactly sure what happened to him.
12'
Musa wins the ball for the Africans and wastes no time to start the counterattack. He releases Emmanuel Emenike on the left wind, who gets a free-kick out of the situation.
11'
Although France has already shown what they are capable of offensively in the first minutes of the game, Nigeria seems to have settled into their defense now and close down midfield.
10'
Karim Benzema produces a capital bad pass in midfield and Nigeria has numbers for a second. France is quick to get back though and the Super Eagles can't capitalize in transition.
8'
Victor Moses tries to track down a long ball on the left wing, but breaks up his run as he realizes that he can't get to it.
6'
Ambrose's delivery finds Odemwingie in the danger area, but Lloris can eventually claim the ball after a sloppy first touch.
6'
It's a very open start from both sides actually and that's a welcomed sign after most teams went with careful and defensive approaches in knockout stage.
5'
France is looking sharp early on and smooth passing sets up Blaise Matuidi on the left flank, who tries to cut the ball back to the middle but can't find a teammate.
4'
Nigeria gets in opposing territory for the first time and wins a corner, but it comes to nothing.
3'
The Équipe continues to press their luck over the right side and get the cross off this time, but Nigeria intercepts in front of Karim Benzema who was ready to fire off the shot form the edge of the box.
2'
Mathieu Debuchy is trying to accelerate on the right side in an first attempt to threaten the penalty area, but is physically cut off by Ahmed Musa.
1'
The first possession belong to the Super Eagles who play the ball all the way back to Enyeama.

We're underway in Brasília!

Kick-Off
American referee Mark Geiger will lead the teams onto the pitch in a few moments. By the way: If both Nigeria and Algeria pull off upset wins, we would be witnessing history as Africa has never had two teams in the quarter finals.
In front of the encounter France tried to temper expectations despite their compelling wins over both Honduras and Switzerland. The objective had been to reach the knockout stage and to go as far as possible from there, said Arsenal's Koscielny, but you can be sure that the Équipe Tricolore will try to continue making amends for their dysfunctional team in 2010.
The Super Eagles have some injury woes of their own in Michel Babatunde. The midfielder sustained an arm injury against Argentina and might be done for the tournament. There were doubts over Victor Moses as well, but the Chelsea man is ready to go and will work the left wing. Stephen Keshi knows his side has to improve today, but is confident that his young team will grow with the challenge and learn quickly.
The full lineups can be found here.
Didier Deschamps chose to rest some players in the last meaningless group match against Ecuador and returns to his best starting lineup today. Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho starts off the bench recovering from an injury and Laurent Koscielny takes over as centre back. Also Paul Pogba remains in the lineup ahead of Moussa Sissoko in midfield. Nigeria will have to find ways to slow down the high-flying French offense that scored eight goals in the two group games that mattered.
The Africa Cup of Nations champion took a bumpier road to this game. They advanced with the friendly help of Bosnia, which downed rival Iran in the last group match so that Nigeria could advance despite a 2-3 defeat to Argentina. The Super Eagles never gave up against Messi and company and that resilience will surely help them in the knockout stage as well. Keshi's team is spiked with international expertise and won't be a pushover for the European favorite.
After star Frank Ribery was ruled out for the World Cup, few believed that the Équipe Tricolore would be able to make a splash, but they grew as a team, cruised through the groups stage and Didier Deschamps' troop is no longer flying under the radar. Life as a favorite can be difficult though. The pressure is rising and you only have to point to Brazil's or the Netherlands' performance in the knockout stage to know it's hard to shake off that burden.
