Endgame Summary:
Mexico deservedly takes the second match in group A against a Cameroon side, who showed too little on the offensive end to be competitive. The Africans benefited from major misjudgments by the referee and his assistants in the first half, otherwise the game might have already been out of hand after the two denied goals by Dos Santos. In the end the awful performance by Roldán gladly didn't change the outcome, but the men in black remain the focal point in the early stages of the World Cup. That's it for the first game today, we hope you enjoyed the coverage!

Full-Time
90'
It doesn't matter though because seconds later the final whistle blows!
90'
Chicharito has to make it two! Nounkeu carelessly loses the ball to Layún on the left side, who unhesitatingly crosses into the box. Hernández is all by himself in front of Itandje, but somehow manages to send the ball over the crossbar from eight yards.
90'
The stoppage time is four minutes while Miguel Herrera takes additional seconds from the clock with his last substitution.

90'
Substitution (out) Mexico -> Héctor Herrera
89'
Benjamin Moukandjo tests Guillermo Ochoa with a header into the left corner, but the keeper is up to task and grabs the ball.
89'
That might have been the one chance for the Africans to pull off the draw.
88'
Francisco Rodriguez saves the day for Mexico! Benjamin Moukandjo dynamically enters the penalty box from the right and delivers a low cross into the six yard box. The defenders intercepts and clears the ball wide!
87'
So long the Central Americans have little trouble with the efforts of Cameroon.
85'
It additionally seems like Mexico, after heavily investing in the match throughout, just wants to bring the result home now.
83'
At least the Africans are now in the driving seat and apply continued pressure on the opponent for the first time today.
82'
Overall Mexico remains the more dangerous side, after a Cameroon corner Javier Hernández runs down the right side in transition and his delivery is intercepted by Nounkeu just in front of Fabián.
80'
The Fenerbahçe man adds more attacking options to the African side as Finke searches for the equalizer.
79'
Substitution (in) Cameroon -> Pierre Webó
79'
Substitution (out) Cameroon -> Alex Song
78'
Dos Santos takes the subsequent free-kick from the left side that is headed away by Cameroon. Miguel Layún gathers the rebound and fires from 25 yards, but is clearly off target.
77'
Dany Nounkeu (Cameroon) is shown a yellow card
The full back takes down Marco Fabián with a late challenge and is booked.
76'
Speaking of Sammy Eto'o: The veteran has shown little so far, but is Finke willing to substitute the idol?
75'
Benjamin Moukandjo delivers a fine cross into the box, but Eto'o finds himself surrounded by defenders and can't secure the ball.
73'
The goal scorer leaves the pitch and it's getting loud in the arena as Chicharito makes his appearance at the World Cup.
72'
Substitution (in) Mexico -> Javier Hernández
72'
Substitution (out) Mexico -> Oribe Peralta
71'
The Lions try to apply more pressure on the Mexicans but they clearly lack potential.
70'
Miguel Herrera makes his first change and brings on a new midfielder. Andrés Guardado looks depleted and is replaced.
69'
Substitution (in) Mexico -> Marco Fabián
69'
Substitution (out) Mexico -> Andrés Guardado
66'
The Lions have to think more offensive now, but they have shown little in that regard so far.
63'
It's a well deserved lead by the Central Americans, who invested more throughout the afternoon.
61'
Goooal for Mexico, 1:0 by Oribe Peralta
Herrera muscles himself through the defense and finds Dos Santos in the penalty area. The initial effort is blocked by Charles Itandje, but the the striker picks up the rebound and scores.
58'
The deflected set-piece misses just wide! Benoît Assou-Ekotto takes the free-kick from 22 yards and the ball bounces off the defensive wall. Guillermo Ochoa is lucky in this situation!
57'
Héctor Moreno (Mexico) is shown a yellow card
After some harsh challenges from the African side, the referee chooses to show the first card to Mexico. But it's justified as No 15 takes down Mbia right in front of the penalty area.
56'
The Mexicans remain dominant but they can't create chances.
53'
The Lions remain passive overall and can't even get out in transition. It looks like they would live with the scoreless draw right now.
50'
Alex Song takes a risky challenge against Dos Santos at the halfway line and brings down Dos Santos. Roldán has yet to show a yellow card, but we're getting close.
49'
Oribe Peralta has to score here! The striker is on the end of a fluid combination into the penalty box, but can't beat Charles Itandje from a tight angle.
48'
Cameroon doesn't look like it will change their tactical approach. They fall back immediately and await the opposition in their own half.
47'
Can Mexico shake off the horrible officiating in this second half? In theory the favorite just has to continue where they left off and good things should happen.
46'
Volker Finke starts off the second half with a change and replaces one of his full backs. Both wings were the vulnerable spots of the African side.
46'
Substitution (in) Cameroon -> Dany Nounkeu
46'
Substitution (out) Cameroon -> Cédric Djeugoue

Second Half begins

Halftime Summary:
There is a lot to discuss from very entertaining 45 minutes, but sadly it heavily involves the referee and his assistants because they denied two regular goals of Giovani Dos Santos. Mexico looked more confident in the first half, but Cameroon had their share of chances after a quiet start and could be leading as well. Stay tuned!
45'
Half-Time
45'
Mexico is pushing for the lead right before the half, but multiple efforts from Dos Santos, who looks very lively so far, are cut off before it gets dangerous.
43'
Roldán is at the sideline talking to Miguel Herrera, who keeps complaining about the decisions of the referee. It's surely not an easy task to remain calm for the Mexicans with all those misjudgments so far.
42'
A pass intended for Oribe Peralta is a tad too long and Charles Itandje can pick up the ball in the penalty box.
40'
We have another controversial play as Stéphane Mbia elbows his opponent. It looked intentional and hard, yet no card is shown.
37'
At least Herrera's side has taken control of the game again and keeps the Africans in their half.
34'
Sadly, the referees are the focal point again. Yesterday Nishimura gifted Brazil a penalty after a Fred dive and today Mexico could and should be up 2-0.
32'
Nobody knows what's going on, the replay doesn't help in finding the cause of the whistle.
30'
Another Mexican goal is whistled down! Unbelievable! A corner slips through Giovani Dos Santos at the far post and he heads it home, but the referee apparently has seen an imaginary foul.
27'
Mexico tries to break free from the Cameroon pressure with a set-piece and Guardado delivers dangerously into the box where Márquez and Moreno are unmarked but can't capitalize.
26'
The rain is getting heavier, it's pouring in Natal!
23'
Suddenly Mexico is in trouble, another corner can't be cleared and in the middle Choupo-Moting and Eto'o have the chance to push the ball over the line, but both miss the opportunity.
21'
What a chance for Eto'o! Assou-Ekotto breaks through the left side and finds his captain with a well-timed delivery. The veteran aims for the left corner but misses just wide. The ball might have even touched woodwork here, it was really close.
19'
Mexico has started aggressively but in the last minutes the game has slowed down a bit. The Central Americans remain crisp in their passing, but can't challenge Cameroon right now.
17'
... Choupo-Moting also scores with the assistant's flag up. This time it's the right decision though as serving Eto'o was clearly offside after the corner was initially defended and brought back into the box.
15'
Mbia gets the first corner for Cameroon...
13'
It seems like Sammy Eto'o has yet to touch the ball. Mexico is in complete control.
11'
Dos Santos scores but is flagged for offside! The Villarreal man is on the receiving end of a beautiful pass from the right side, but the linesman has his flag up. Replay shows that the striker was indeed onside, Mexico got robbed here.
10'
Cameroon does not look solid on the wings, they are giving away too much space for Aguilar and Layún.
8'
Paul Aguilar is the early force for Mexico, breaking through on the right side again and his dangerous cross is intercepted by N'Koulou.
7'
The wet pitch is causing some trouble early on, but the sides will surely adopt gradually.
6'
As expected the Africans sit deep in their own half and will look for their fast paced offense in transition.
4'
Aguilar has some space on the right side, but the cross is off the mark and past the goal line. It looked like Maza might have gotten a piece of it, but no corner is awarded.
3'
The first possession belongs to the Central Americans but they can't find the gap on the right side.
2'
Mexico is wearing their traditional green while Cameroon sports yellow jerseys.
1'
We are underway in Eastern Brazil on a rainy afternoon.

Kick-Off
The players are set to enter the arena in Natal led by Columbian referee Roldán.
Next to the veteran, the more intriguing player on the Cameroon side might be Stéphane Mbia, who blossomed in Sevilla this season and helped the Spanish outlet to win the Europa League. The Africans are surely no pushovers and in preparation for the World Cup they impressed with a 2-2 draw against one of the favorites in Germany. But the overwhelming odds are that the Lions will not come out of the group stage for the fifth straight time.
Meanwhile Cameroon comfortably dispatched Tunisian the playoffs and are considered one of the better teams of the continent. Volker Finke's side is physically gifted and can play at a great pace. As underdogs, the Africans will surely operate out of a sound defense, wait for counterattacks and hope that Samuel Eto'o has a few tricks left in his bag.
On the defensive side, Miguel Herrera once more relies on veteran Rafael Márquez. The captain is the lone centre back within the 3-5-2 system, but wingers Miguel Layún and Paul Aguilar will act as additional full backs on defense, essentially forming a back five.
The complete lineups can be found here.
The biggest problem of the Central Americans has been the ability to score goals despite much offensive talent. After a difficult year Chicharito got dumped to the bench for Oribe Peralta, the most successful striker in recent domestic competitions. The Santos Laguna man is certainly a player to watch today and will be joined up front by Giovani Dos Santos, who bounced around Europa after leaving Barca and now seems to have found a home in Villarreal.
Although the "Tricolor" remains a force in Central and North America, the last time they reached the Quarter Finals was 1986 in their home country. A good omen might be the 2012 Summer Olympics though, in which Mexico beat Brazil for the gold medal. Since Herrera took over eight month ago, Mexico has stabilized with a squad mostly containing domestic Liga MX players. The coach intentionally ignored some European-based stars, but the success speaks for itself.
Yesterday we had four goals, controversy, unconvincing hosts and a stubborn underdog. You can't ask for much more and we certainly hope today's matches will continue in similar fashion. It was assumed that Croatia and Mexico will likely battle out the second spot behind Brazil, so Miguel Herrera's team plays for a first advantage over the Eastern Europeans today and start the match as favorites.
Janosch Ferda is commentating for you. Enjoy!
