Fulltime Summary:
At the end the Netherlands can win their second match, too, but in contrast to their 5-1 victory over Spain they didn't make a convincing impression. After a rather calm beginning the Dutch took the lead after a counterattack in the 20th minute, but immediately conceded the beautifully finished equalizer by Cahill. In the following the Socceroos more and more took over control while the Elftal weren't able to get in front of the goal for quite some time. Therefore the 1-1 was pretty well-earned at half-time. After play resumed, Oranje tried to be more dominant and create chances, but it was Australia taking the lead with a penalty! However, the equalizer followed quickly, this time the Flying Dutchmen scored after Davidson played a horrible pass in his own penalty area. Still, van Gaal's team didn't manage to fully control the game. Australia could've almost scored the 3-2, but instead it was Holland scoring with the subsequent counterattack. Like the 2-2, This goal was also benefited by an error: Goalie Ryan wasn't able to save a surely parriable shot from Depay. Finally, for the remaining 20 minutes the Netherlands increased pressure and didn't let their opposition become dangerous again.

Full-Time
89'
Again and again play is interrupted because of several fouls in midfield. All of them are not that awful, but the clock's ticking! Australia are trying to pressure the Dutch, but they can't manage to do so.
87'
Van Gaal takes his skipper off the pitch and replaces his with Lens. As already seen in the first match, Robben will be the captain for the remaining minutes.
87'
Substitution (in) Netherlands -> Jeremain Lens
87'
Substitution (out) Netherlands -> Robin van Persie
85'
The game is in a quite calm stage right now, the ball mostly circles around the halfway line.
83'
Oranje seem quite confident now, letting the ball do the work and not giving the Australians a chance to score again. Still one has to say that the Netherlands' play isn't that convincing today, especially in comparison with last Friday.
81'
From time to time the Socceroos try to get into the opposition's box again, but it seems like they are getting tires. Can they equalize again?
78'
Van Gaal also makes a change, bringing in Wijnaldum for de Guzmán.
78'
Substitution (in) Netherlands -> Georginio Wijnaldum
78'
Substitution (out) Netherlands -> Jonathan de Guzmán
77'
Postecoglou takes his third substitution and replaced Oar with Taggart, who's the top goal scorer of the Australian A-League.
77'
Substitution (in) Australia -> Adam Taggart
77'
Substitution (out) Australia -> Tommy Oar
74'
The Dutch have a free-kick from 18 metres distance, but Robbens low attempt is easily catched by Ryan. A few seconds later, de Jogn has a shot from inside the box, but again it's the keeper parrying it away.
72'
Holland are increasing pressure! They can stick to the Australian box and keep the Socceroos busy. Sneijer has an attempt from about 15 metres distance, but it's blocked.
69'
If Australia don't somehow manage to win this game and the following, too, this should be Cahill's last WC game. He is replaced by Halloran.
69'
Substitution (in) Australia -> Ben Halloran
69'
Substitution (out) Australia -> Tim Cahill
68'
Goooal for Netherlands, 2:3 by Memphis Depay
Oranje score directly with their next attack! Just after Leckie's chance, the Elftal is looking to get forward with Depay holding the ball in front of the box. The substitute isn't properly challenged and therefore can make a few steps towards the goal. He finishes with a knuckle shot from about 17 metres and Ryan can't make a save! The ball bounces into the goal from his fists, that's a really an awful error by the keeper!
67'
Why doesn't he shoot himself?! Suddenly Oar has so much space at the left corner of the six-yard-box, that there's really no other option than shooting. But instead he plays a waist-high ball to Leckie, who's position is far less beneficial. The FSV Frankfurt striker can only manage to let the ball bounce off his chest and into Cilessen's arms.
64'
Ouch! Van Persia should be careful since he's already booked! Lucky for him, his hard challenge on Jedinak isn't penalized with a second yellow card.
62'
After Janmaat commits a foul on his defending side, Australia have a free-kick from the left wing. But they can't create any danger with this set piece.
60'
The game is becoming kind of wild since the 2-2, the ball is literally going back and forth.
58'
Goooal for Netherlands, 2:2 by Robin van Persie
Oh, that's a really bad pass! Standing in front of his own goal, Davidson plays the ball right into Depay's feet, who passes it to van Persie, giving the striker much space in the penalty box. The prolific goal scorer takes a powerful shot from a range of ten metres and slams it into the higher left corner!
56'
What now? Will the Socceroos take over control or can the Dutch score the equalizer?
54'
Goooal for Australia, 2:1 by Mile Jedinak
It's not Cahill but skipper Jedinak, who converts the penalty! Cilessen jumps onto the left, while the Australian's shot goes in the opposite direction.
53'
That's a doubtful penalty! Some refs would give it, other may not. Bozanic goes onto the left side of the box and wants to cross, though Blind is standing right in front of him and therefore the Australian virtually has no chance of getting through. Of course the ball touches the defender's hand, because of that the penalty is given. But the Dutchmman at least tries to pull it onto his body so that he won't have an advantage.
51'
The 34-year-old Bresciano can get some rest and is replaced by Bozanic, who plays for Swiss side FC Luzern.
51'
Substitution (in) Australia -> Oliver Bozanic
51'
Substitution (out) Australia -> Mark Bresciano
50'
What a great shot! Sneijer has an attempt onto the higher left corner of the goal, but Ryan can parry the effort from about 18 metres. The following corner-kick comes to nothing though.
47'
Robin van Persie (Netherlands) is shown a yellow card
Like Cahill, van Persie will also sit the next one out. The Dutch captain hits his opponent with his elbow while being in a duel to win the ball. The Manchester United striker may not do this on purpose, but at the least he's too careless. So this booking is rightful.

Second Half begins
45'
Halftime Summary:
So far this wasn't quite a spectacular game, but it had it moments, too. Nothing worth mentioning happened in the first 20 minutes, both teams were trying to feel out their opposition. But then the Dutch were able to convert their second counterattack within minutes. It was Robben who like in the first game against Spain proved to be unstoppable and easily managed score his third tournament goal. But Oranje had no time to get exited about it since Australia immediately equalized with a goal quite similar to the ones the Netherlands scored on Friday. Cahill was successful with a volley shot after a long ball and scored his second goal. Subconsequently the Socceroos grew stronger, more and more they were able to shift the center of events into the opposition's half.
45'
Half-Time
45'
Substitution (in) Netherlands -> Memphis Depay
45'
Substitution (out) Netherlands -> Bruno Martins Indi
44'
Martins Indi can't continue to play and is carried away on a barrow, Depay will come on the pitch shortly. Obviously the winger won't play as defender, so the Elftal probably will continue to play with a 4-3-3, having to dedicated wingers on the field with Robben and Depay.
43'
Tim Cahill (Australia) is shown a yellow card
Cahill is penalised for a n awful challenge against Martins Indi. The Australian forward rushes into the defender and the Dutchmen needs medical attendance. He will be suspended for the third game since this is already his second booking in the tournament.
41'
Oranje are trying to let the ball do the work and this way gain more possession again. Still, they can't create any chances.
39'
Apparently, the Netherlands are playing with four defenders now. Blind shifts forward and is acting as defensive midfielder.
37'
The Socceroos are really doing a great job, making the 1-1 being well-earned. The Elftal can't find a proper reaction so far.
34'
Is this maybe part of van Gaal's tactics? Australia are starting to have even more possession than the Netherlands, at least for a few minutes. Maybe the future Manchester United manager wants to make Australia feel save, just to surprise them with a quick counterattack?
31'
Australia are getting stronger by the minute! After their corner is cleared, Bresciano slams the ball right over the bar from about 17 metres. Right now bith teams are pretty even.
28'
That could've been a nice chance! Robben passes to Blind who wants to serve van Persie from the left border of the box. But his pass is blocked.
26'
Since the equalizer both teams pick up the pace a little bit, even Australia is now looking to get into the box more often.
24'
Wow, what an instant comeback from Australia, that's pretty impressive! They managed to score despite having no chances so far. Oranje look a little bit shocked for a moment but quickly get a grip of the game again.
21'
Goooal for Australia, 1:1 by Tim Cahill
What a quick and powerful response! Australia play a long ball into the penalty area and Cahill converts perfectly with a volley! He takes the shot his left foot and immediately fires it from 10 metres distance right under the bar!
20'
Goooal for Netherlands, 0:1 by Arjen Robben
It looks so easy when they score goals like this! Robben picks up the ball at the halfway line and suddenly dashes forward like a bat out of hell! No one is able to catch up with the 30-year-old, so Robben runs into the box from the left and finishes from about twelfe metres with a low shot into the right corner of the goal!
19'
What a shame! Holland counterattack with their three star players, but then Sneijder passes onto the left where Robben expected a pass onto the right for van Persie. Therefore the Bayern Munich winger can't reach the ball in time.
17'
Oar makes the corner kick but it comes to nothing since Cahill commits a foul against Martins Indi.
15'
Australia have their first attempt! Leckie can maintain the ball on the right hand side and passes it back to Bresciano. The 34-year-old takes a shot from 16 metres, but it's blocked for a corner.
12'
The Aussies' passes just aren't precise enough! Several times they try to get the ball to their wingers, but every time it goes out of play.
9'
Still the game doesn't pick up the pace, but rather remains slow. The ball is mostly played around the center circle, both teams are feeling out their opposition.
7'
Robben almost gets his first chance! The left-footed striker dashes forward after de Jong wins the ball from McKay and passes it onto the right wing. But the 30-year-old Dutchman can't get pass the Autralian defense.
4'
Ouch! It seems like Martins Indi is hit by Bresciano's ellbow, but fortunately the defender can continue play.
2'
After an illegal challenge from de Jong againt Oar the Australians have free-kick from about 25 metres distance. However, Špiranović's cross is an easy catch for Cilessen.

Kick-Off
This fixture occured three times so far: In 2006, both teams drawed 1:1, In 2008, the Socceroos even won 2-1, while in 2009 their third friendly match ended with a 0-0.
Of course one shouldn't confuse having five titular defenders on the pitch with playing defensively. Quite the contrary it's a 3-5-2 in disguise, if you will. Both fullbacks (Blind and Janmaat) could also be considered as left midfielder and right midfielder. So actually it's a quite flexible arrangement.
It wasn't quite clear whether van Gaal will again let his team play in a 5-3-2 or change to the Holland classic formation of 4-3-3. Most people expected a reverse to the old system, since the former Bayern Munich coach said: "If Australia is going to play a very defensive match then 4-3-3 will allow us to put more pressure on them up front. However, that doesn't always yield the desired results. This is why this is such a difficult question for me. I know the answer and so do the players. Lets take a look at the lineup tomorrow." Now looking at the lineups, it actually seems like the Elftal continue to play with five defenders.
Holland's skipper Robin van Persie said he has "[...]seen the spectacular footage and images from the celebrations across the world and that makes [him] so proud." The striker also added that his team might have to try a different approach in the upcoming game: "Now the focus is on Australia and I think that will be completely different to the game against Spain. Australia have a very different style and I think we are going to have to adjust our own game to beat them."
Surprisingly, the Socceroos seem quite confident and even are aiming for three points, as Mathew Leckie stated: "We really want to get a result so we're going to try and find the areas where we can hurt the Dutch team. I think if we can play as well as we did that 70 minutes we'll definitely have an opportunity to get a win."
However, Australia changed their team on two positions: Obviously Franjic must be replaced, but Postecoglou also had to take out Mark Milligan due to a minor hamstring injury. Ryan McGowan and Matt McKay will be in the starting line-up instead.
Australia's Ivan Franjic left the team a few days ago since he suffered a hamstring injury in his team's first match. Since the tournament already started, the Socceroos can't nominate a replacement for the 26-year-old. Oranje on the other side were concerned about Daley Blind and Ron Vlaar, who both overcame minor injuries. In fact some people even suspected that the Aston Villa defender would find himself on the bench today because of an anticipated system witch from 5-3-2 to 4-3-3. But The Netherlands are starting with the same line-up as in their first match.
After the Elftal celebrated their big victory against Spain, team manager Louis van Gaal tried to bring everyone back down to earth: "This is just the first step. We have to keep our feet on the ground, we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. We need to prove our capability to win over Australia, which would be that easy. I felt the team reacted very well, especially the older players. The more seasoned players know what is going on and they immediately warned the team this was simply one victory and that we haven't earned anything."
But instead of burying their head's in the sand, the Aussies' are aiming for an upset against the favourite. Headcoach Ange Postecoglou stressed that his team has to gain some points: "If we don't get a result it's the end of our tournament." He also stated that the Socceroos shouln't concentrate on defending today: "We know that van Persie and Robben will be a challenge but we knew that coming into the tournament. In saying that we also need to be attack-minded, we can't just defend for 90 minutes."
In their first match, the Socceroos lost 1-3 against Chile and now they have to play against the Dutch, who crushed Spain with an outstanding 5-1 win. Since Australia only has these two games against the world champion and the runner-up left, their chances of proceeding to the next round seem to be quite low.
