Endgame Summary:
It's all over for the world champions of 2010. The Spanish dream of defending the title is gone, another period of football sets in. Tiki Taka is the past, fast game play á la Netherlands - and also Chile - is en vogue these days! Chile deserves the victory due to their ambitious and direct attacks, it's tactical discipline, and physical but also mental strength. Without any creative ideas there was nothing to win for Del Bosque's eleven, Chile showed amazing efficiency in the box and scored twice. Aránguiz can be seen as most decisive player on the pitch, he scored once and assisted Vargas' 1:0 with an amazing move. In addition, Barcelona's Sánchez was always dangerous, always attentive and together with the tremendously strong Vidal formed the red rag to the Spanish bulls. It's a tragedy, but let's face it: Spain is gone by today while Chile makes one step further and is classified for the next round!

Full-Time
89'
It's gettin hot for a last time in Chile's box. Ramos fails to bury it from the penalty spot. And then it's Alba who desperately wants to score. No chance, heads are down amongst the Spanish. Crowd, players, and the Coach are visibly heartbroken. It's the end of an era - many of the Spanish players will not play another World Cup. Casillas, Xavi, Torres, Alonso or even Ramos will not be seen amidst this scenery again.
88'
Atalanta's Carmora enters for Juve's Arturo Vidal. Midfielder substitutes for midfielder. Vidal receives standing ovations.
88'
Substitution (in) Chile -> Carlos Carmona

Substitution (in) Chile -> Jorge Valdivia
85'
Substitution (out) Chile -> Eduardo Vargas
84'
No its Iniesta to smash the ball towards the goal. But the marvellous Bravo is on the spot and clears this good attempt.
83'
It's not nice to see those great players bleeding. Iniesta, Ramos and all the others have brought so many magic moments to our attention. But Chile deserves the victory, only a miracle can prevent the golden Spanish generation from playing their last battle here against the La Roja of South America. Otherwise it will be all over.
81'
Cazorla shoots from distance but Bravo makes a brilliant save. The corner does not help the men in red to get closer to the goal.
78'
No ideas, no dynamics, no precision, no rearing up. The Spanish seem to be game over.
76'
The last card being played by Vicente Del Bosque is the substitution of the almost invisible Pedro by Santi Cazorla.
76'
Substitution (in) Spain -> Santi Cazorla
76'
Substitution (out) Spain -> Pedro
75'
The restless Sánchez dribbles through Ramos and Alba and slides the cross towards Vidal. The Juventus midfielder cannot control the ball but tries to get a penalty. With too much spectactle, not convincing the referee at all.
72'
Spain is not existent in these moments. Facing the embarrassing fact to be thrown out of the tournament in a quarter of an hour from now the Iberic super stars start to shiver.
68'
Almost the 3:0! Spain is not recovering. Instead, the South Americans put pin the world champions down to their pitch. And have chances to score! Alexis finds Mena in the middle of the box. His finishing turns into a cross directly onto the feet of Isla. But his effort is high and wide of the crossbar.
64'
...and the next half-chance for Chile. Vargas tries his luck from the distance but sees his soft shot rolling around into Casillas' arms.
64'
Charles Aránguiz who suffered a minor injury is substituted by Felipe Gutiérrez.
64'
Substitution (in) Chile -> Felipe Gutiérrez
64'

64'
Substitution (in) Spain -> Fernando Torres
64'

First chance for Chile in the second half! It's a three versus three situation, again led forward by Vargas and Sánchez. The latter tries his luck from the border to the penalty area which can be conjointly blocked.
61'
Eugenio Mena (Chile) is shown a yellow card
Coming late with his challenge against Pedro Mena is booked too.
59'
Spain still appears to be too sloppy in their efforts to come closer to Bravo's goal. The last pass does never find its target and Chile is not beginning to totter.
57'
Gutierrez is about to enter for Aranguiz but the latter feels better and is on the pitch again.
55'
Bad injury! The scorer of the second goal is down and seems to be unable to continue playing.
54'
Terrible fail by Busquets! Another good trial is realized by Ramos who hits the free kick from centre right. But the shot is too central and can be cleared. As like Chile's goal Silva can secure the ball right after the keeper's save and crosses it on the second post. There, Busquets appears and is about to smash it in. But nothing! The Catalan surely should have buried that one.
50'
First great chance for La Roja! Iniesta slips a hard and straight pass through to Costa. But the 25 year old from Madrid can't score. Jara is there to safe in the very last moment and prevent Costa from making the first goal for Spain.
49'
Spain does not leave any doubts about throwing everythin in now to come back into the game. But Chile remains unbeatable in their defense.
46'
Koke enters the pitch for Alonso who is lucky to has not been sent off after a horrific foul against Isla. Atletico Madrid's Koke is the first change to save what is to be saved for the titleholder.

Substitution (out) Spain -> Xabi Alonso

Halftime Summary:
Everybody knew that it was getting to be hard for Spain to make up for the historic defeat against the Netherlands. But only some would have guessed that the Spanish world champions would not be able to make ends meet against the Chileans either. With a strong defensive block Sampaoli answered Del Bosques changes which were aimed to bring more dynamics into the Spanish game play. And the efficiency comes into the spectator's eyes: the ice-cold strikers from the Andes have not had more possibilities than the bulls from the Iberic peninsula. But Sánchez, Vargas, and Aránguiz clearly figured out how to use those seldom occasions. This was the main difference between the teams. All in all it was a more than disappointing first half for Iniesta and his mates leaving La Roja in World Cup's offside. Let's see what Del Bosque changes but as of now there is only one right answer to this: A lot!

Half-Time
44'
Goooal for Chile, 0:2 by Charles Aránguiz
Incredible! The Spaniards are almost sent away from the World Cup. Firstly, Sánchez kicks a wonderful free kick across the wall. Casillas can only partially clear this rainbow shot. And then it's Aranguiz who gets the ball and smashes it into the goal. And also this one can be slightly blamed on Casillas.
43'
Last possibility to score. But it's not for Spain. Free kick from the center right for the Chileans.
40'
Xabi Alonso (Spain) is shown a yellow card
Alonso deliberates himself partly from all the frustration. A more than brutal tackling against Isla, who with all his fortune overcomes this entrance without injury, is sanctioned with the yellow card.
37'
It is still a miracle that Spain's defenders did not cover Vargas better in the situation leading to the goal. The fact that the Valencian striker did score three out of four goals in the last games between the two nations did obviously not scare them off.
35'
Ten minutes to go in the first half. Spain presens itself without the illuminating ideas needed to score against the well shaped back line of the South Americans. How can La Roja escape the trap?
32'
Very bustling phase on the pitch. The referee has to intervene a couple of times blustering the players. Tacklings have become too hard although no further cards has been been shown since the yellow card for Vidal.
28'
Costa almost puts it in! What a big chance for Costa to equalise! The brazilian born forward gets the ball in the box and hits it hard. But the only endangered thing is the side netting. The score remains the same.
26'
Arturo Vidal (Chile) is shown a yellow card
Following a late challenge on Busquets Vidal is booked.
22'
The mountain Spain has to climb is getting higher and higher. Chile does not leave the Spanish forwards as alone as Vargas was standing in the middle of the box right before the goal. This causes Del Bosque to stand wordlessly next to the touch lines. Is this the beginning of the end?
20'
Goooal for Chile, 0:1 by Eduardo Vargas
And that's the goal for the fabulous Chileans! Out of the sudden a fast attack is led forward by Aranguiz who slides the ball through to Vargas who is left totally alone five meters in front of the goal. Casillas is too late and can't save his team from falling behind. The Chilean enthusiasm is unrestricted!
15'
Chile is sitting too deep in the last minutes but still giving too much space to the Spanish forwards. Those have not been able yet to take their profits out of this situation.
13'
What an occasion! Alonso shoots this one right into the arms of Bravo. This could have been the 1:0. Pure excitement!
12'
Spain makes advances in taking over the control. Chile less and less directs dangerous and relieving moves toward Casillas' goals.
10'
Lots of fighting, lots of missed passes, but still no real chances on both sides. Now Silva trying to slide it into Pedro is intercepted by the stabil full back Medel. On the other side the counter attack is cleared by Azpilicueta.
7'
The pace is high, every action is played on top speed. Hard duels are the result, now Iniesta falls down. The free kick is brought to Ramos who showed in the Champions League what he's able to do with his head. But this time he misses the goal by far.
5'
During the first minutes there's a full load of pressure excerted by both teams. Directed passes to the attackers are tried, but still, the attentive defenders make a good job.
2'
...and Chile has two occassion right at the beginning. First, Vargas can't put it in from few meters due to Alba's disturbance, the resulting corner is headed by Jara, who also misses the goal. Spain takes a deep breath.

Flags has been exchanged, shake hands with referees and opponent team leaders undertaken - let the game start!

Kick-Off
We are looking forward towards a spectacular football evening. The teams are on their way to the pitch, the brass band about to start the anthems.
Not having lost against Chile for ten matches now Iniesta shows plenty of respect for Vidal, Alexis and Co.: "Chile are a difficult team because we'll have to defend and we'll have to fight one against one," he puts his fear of being the fourth World Champion thrown out of the subsequent tournament after the preliminary round in words.
And regarding losing the first game of a tournament Spain is able to tell a success story which was written exactly four years ago. As first team ever in World Cup's history La Roja went on winning the title after suffering a defeat in the very first game (against Switzerland).
While stating that the the 5:1 defeat of Iniesta and friends was too high Sampaoli admits that his plan to encounter the Spaniards was planned in-debt long before the World Cup. "We had already developed a system before the World Cup and we already knew before the World Cup how we'd play against Spain but obviously after watching Spain against Holland, we've considered minor changes, but Spain didn't deserve such a defeat. They were much better in the first half, but many things went against them that made them lose the way they lost."
On the other side we do not see changes at Chile's team. Like in their first game the Chilean Coach Sampaoli confides in a 3-5-2 line up with Valencia's Eduardo Vargas and Barcelona's Alexis Sánchez as attackers and Arturo Vidal to their support.
In order to do so the Spanish Coach leaves the all too slow Barcelona strategic director Xavi and his team mate Piqué on the bench. In pursuit of Iberic happiness Bayern midfielder and the dynamic Barcelona forward Pedro enter La Roja's starting eleven.
The Andean nation from the pacific coast line of the Americas sees itself as the contender. It is clear that beating Spain this evening what mean that the World Champions from 2010 prolong their summer vacation unintentionally. As Chile has already one victory and, therefore, three points on its account, Del Bosque's squad is almost obliged to win this match.
There's no rest for the true supporter! After a tremendously fascinating clash between the guys from down under and the marvellous dutchmen who bet Spain so gloriously in the first match we will turn our eyes onto another great game. Spain versus Chile is what we are longing for - decisive and full of excitement from the first minute we will see a battle between the injured iberic bull against its South American potential matador.
Dearest Football lovers, welcome to the second matchday of group B. From 8 p.m. onwards we will enjoy Spain against Chile. We wish you a lot of pleasure, goals and excitement!
