Fulltime Summary:
Everybody anticipated a semi between Brazil and Germany after the draw and although we're eventually set for this thrilling matchup, a lot of question marks remain. After Germany also Brazil squeezed through their quarter final and needed some degree of luck to survive a late surge by Colombia. Captain Thiago Silva will definitely miss the semi and the nation collectively hold its breath that superstar Neymar's injury will not keep him out as well. In the knockout stage the hosts continue to be reliant on set-pieces and their solid defense. They showed improvements throughout the first half with some crisp passing up front, but that was short-lived and they fell back into apathy in the second half again. But their dream is still alive and that surely is all what counts for now!

It's the sixth goal for the PSG star! He sends Júlio César one way and calmly finishes into the other.
78'
Júlio César (Brazil) is shown a yellow card
The keeper earns a yellow for his action as well. Can he repeat his heroics from the Chile penalty shootout or are we headed for a frantic finish?
77'
Penalty Colombia! James Rodríguez releases Carlos Bacca with a nice through-ball from the edge of the box and the striker is undoubtedly brought down by Júlio César.

Goooal for Brazil, 2:0 by David Luiz
What a strike! My goodness, the centre back just drills a rocket from 30 yards right into the top-right corner of the goal from the ensuing set-piece!
67'
James Rodríguez (Colombia) is shown a yellow card
The official has found his cards and books the Colombian star, who is more than displeased and has a point. The challenge on Hulk wasn't as bad and he's been on the receiving end of some rough tacklings from the hosts himself.
65'
Disallowed goal by Colombia! A free-kick results in a rather wild sequence in the Brazilian danger area because the defense is unable to clear the ball. After two or three blocked shots the ball finds the back of the net, but the assistant had its flag up for offside from the initial delivery.
64'
Thiago Silva (Brazil) is shown a yellow card
Scolari is facepalming at the sideline because his captain gets in the way of keeper Ospina, who was trying to kick an intercepted ball down the field in search of a counterattack. The consequence: Brazilian's numbers three would miss the semi-final for this dump block.
63'
The Spanish referee continues his loose handling of the game. He still hasn't booked anyone despite some rough challenges throughout.
62'
Cuadrado is downed and wins the free-kick on the right flank, the ball bounces around in the box but Brazil is eventually able to clear with the third or forth effort.
61'
Colombia is slowly able to control the game and claim more possession, but real chances are hard to come by for Los Cafeteros.
59'
James Rodríguez flicks the ball to Ramos at the edge of the box, but the Dortmund man fires the shot well high.
58'
Two yellow shirts are shaken up after challenges in the midfield, but looks like both are able to continue.
56'
Reserves on both sides are starting to warm up.
55'
Surprisingly bright spot Neymar from previous games isn't quite as reliable today. A lot of sloppy passing from the superstar.
53'
Brazil is in no rush right now to build up. They are calmly waiting for an opening.
52'
Neymar crosses and David Luiz's header goes wide for a goal-kick.
51'
Fernandinho beats Guarín down the right side and eventually wins a free-kick against the midfielder.
50'
The game remains foul-heavy and Colombia delivers a set-piece into the area where it's headed away by Thiago Silva. Brazil is dominant in the air so far.
49'
Colombia will gradually have to act a tad more courageous, it's a slow start into the half.
47'
The substitute tries to track down a ball, but pressured by Fernandinho he can't keep it in play and it rolls out for a goal kick.
46'
Newly installed Víctor Ibarbo doesn't come back for the second half and is replaced by a more traditional striker in Ramos. Jackson Martínez remains another very viable option off the bench.

Halftime Summary:
Brazil's game looked much more fluid throughout compared to past performances and Neymar had plenty support in Hulk so far. The difference was only one set-piece but it's a well earned lead by the hosts, who have little trouble defensively with what Colombia had to offer. James Rodríguez was well contained and Júlio César has had a largely simple game. Stay tuned!

Half-Time
45'
One minute of stoppage time goes by and we're heading into the break!
44'
It's indeed the star who sends the ball over the crossbar.
43'
Naymar wins a free-kick in a dangerous position and might take the shot himself from 18 yards.
41'
Colombia are trying some aerial balls to reach their striker, but the Brazilian defense has little trouble containing these approaches.
39'
Hulk is the danger man for Brazil again as he loses his opponent in the left box and releases a ferocious shot from a tight angle that sails way wide of the near post.
37'
After plenty of discussion between Guarín, Cuadrado and James, the latter releases the shot into the wall. Poor execution by Los Cafeteros!
35'
Maybe a set-piece comes to aid as Fernandinho takes down Ibarbo with a high challenge right at the edge of the box.
32'
Colombia is unable to pressure the Brazilian goal in the last minutes, they are engaged in their own half.
30'
The hosts are the more committed side: David Luiz bullies through the left side, is denied but fights back and earns the ovation from the crowd.
28'
Seconds later, the winger challenges Ospina for the second time today but the keeper prevails again against the low-driven effort.
27'
Hulk nearly stumbles on the left side but is able to find Marcelo, whose shot is well high and might have been deflected off a teammate.
26'
Although Brazil is looking stronger collectively, Fred remains nowhere to be seen.
24'
Colombia has to settle down a bit here, Paulinho penetrates the penalty area but is dispossessed by Zapata.
24'
The pace is picking up, but sequences are wild right now. The referee plays a role as well as he just waves play on while players in the centre circle are gathering and discussing a challenge. The ensuing counterattack by Brazil comes to nothing though.
22'
What a wasted chance on the counter! James Rodríguez gets to a loose ball and accelerate through midfield. Colombia has numbers, but picked out Cuadrado on the right is unable to feed Teófilo Gutiérrez in the box, who would have found himself unmarked in front of Júlio César.
20'
As Brazilian supporter you have to be thrilled though that the Seleção finally shows crisp passing up front. They lacked a good bunch of movement and pace in their matches so far.
19'
A neat one-two with Neymar sends Hulk into the left penalty area, but he can't beat Ospina from a tight angle.
17'
The next corner from Brazil leads to danger again as Hulk picks up the defended ball and squares it across the six yard box. But David Luiz can't get to it.
15'
It's a quite physical start from the hosts anyway, lots of fouling going on right now.
13'
Fernandinho bodychecks James in midfield and the official hints that he'll reach into his pocket in the future for similar offenses.
11'
The underdog tries to shake off the shock immediately and Cuadrados left-footed effort sails into the side net from the edge of the box. Good response from Colombia!
10'
If Colombia intended to try a defensive approach today, they'd have to switch tactics early.
8'
Just like against Chile a corner that slips through to the far post delivers the lead. Fortaleza is rocking! Thiago Silva answers his critics as he was in the line of fire for not taking a penalty in the round of 16.
7'
Goooal for Brazil, 1:0 by Thiago Silva
What a start for the Seleção! The corner is initially missed by several players in the middle, but the captain sneaks to the far post and tips the ball over the line.
6'
Neymar is played through by Paulinho on the left flank, but Zapata intercepts the striker and clears out for a corner.
5'
First set-piece to Brazil and Neymar curls the ball over the wall well wide of the left post from 25 yards.
4'
The underdog has been a fluid force up front so far in the tournament, but might have to or even want to settle for a minor role here and wait for their chances in transition.
3'
It's expectedly noisy in Fortaleza and Colombia is getting booed.
2'
Paulinho accelerates down the right side, but can't beat Mario Yepes.
2'
Brazil controls the first possessions and poke around the ball in their own half.
1'
And we are off!

Kick-Off
Because both teams normally feature a yellow dress, not only Colombia switched to their red colors, but also the fans on the stands to separate themselves from the home crowd.
Which team will be another step closer to a title in two hours? Either way, we are set for an exciting encounter in Fortaleza! The man on the whistle is Carlos Velasco Carballo, who is assisted by his Spanish countrymen Roberto Alonso Fernández and Juan Yuste Jiménez. Norwegian Svein Oddvar Moen serves as fourth official.
Brazil also will have to play better as they haven't met expectations so far. Local media has even questioned the emotional immaturity of the squad and their ability to handle pressure, but Scolari rightfully hinted at the many even games in which favorites were struggling. Nonetheless his team carries the whole nation on their shoulders while Colombia has comparably little to lose.
Meanwhile Argentine coach José Pekerman of Colombia makes tow changes in his lineup himself as he brings on Fredy Guarín in midfield and Víctor Ibarbo on the left wing. Stunningly prolific striker Jackson Martínez was demoted and only starts off the bench today. Pekerman said that progressing to the semi-finals would be a major leap and that they obviously had to perform at their peak. To put the task in perspective: The last time Brazil lost a competitive match at home was in 1975, a 1-3 against Peru in a Copa America semi.
The complete lineups can be found here.
It's not the best time for Luiz Felipe Scolari to rearrange his defensive midfield. Both Fernandinho and Paulinho couldn't convince next to the reliable Luiz Gustavo, but since the Wolfsburg man is suspended both are in the starting lineup. The coach sticks to Fred up front despite continued criticism, but surprisingly replaces Dani Alves, who struggled against Chile as well. Maicon will see his first minutes of the World Cup as right back replacement.
Two of the tournament's stars go head to head against each other. Neymar has been a force and widely carried an otherwise very common Brazilian squad throughout with four goals, but is topped by shooting star James Rodríguez. The PSG man scored five times and contributed both goals that set up today's quarter final for his team against Uruguay. Although James has been highlighted, Los Cafeteros collectively feature a deep and skilled offensive that the hosts have to slow down.
After an European clash which saw Germany progress earlier today, the tournament follows up with another continental duel. Colombia emerged as dark horses with four wins in the tournament so far and probably the most convincing showing of all teams in the round of 16. Brazil by contrast struggled once more against Chile and edged La Roja in a thrilling penalty shootout.

Welcome to the second quarter final of the World Cup in Brazil! The hosts take on South American rivals Colombia in order to keep their title dream alive.
