Kick-Off
Néstor Pitana and his Argentinian cohorts are responsible of regulating the match. Just a moment before kickoff!
The teams have made their way out to the pitch and are preparing to sing their respective national anthems. Just a few minutes between now and kickoff for the first semifinal!
France have not performed well on the international stage since the World Cup final in 2006. After high expectations in 2010, France disappointed. Contrastingly, this rendition of the French squad has performed well. They might be due a breakthrough against Die Mannschaft.
After a bit of cohesion from the Germany lineup against Algeria, Löw has made a formation shift. Miroslav Klose gets the start today and will try and break Ronaldo's record of goal-scoring in the World Cup. Additionally, Sami Khedira will have his first opportunity to play alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos. The formation sparked a bit of success against Algeria and will hope to do the same against France.
Die Mannschaft have made three straight semifinals and are seeking to reach a fourth. France have had relatively good success against their European rivals, winning eight of nineteen matches against Germany. They will look to improve on that record today.
Jogi Löw has things to prove with a German side that hasn't made it to the Final since 2002 against Brasil. They have expected their golden generation to perform well with some familiar faces likely seeing their last World Cup. Despite an injury to their star, Franck Ribery, France has performed exceptionally well so far but they are facing starker challengers today. Paul Pogba will have to make his presence known against a strong German midfield and expect Benzema, Griezmann to try and get behind the suspect German back line.
The first match in the quarter-finals matches Germany and France off in an epic match. Both sides still have plenty of history in the World Cup and will look to continue their journey towards the Finals. Stay tuned here for updates throughout the match
