Endgame Summary:
The Blues will come away from this game thinking they are last minute expoerts at the end of european competitions. It will be a painful night for the portuguese side, as they were completely capable of playing with Chelsea and for a good part of the match the better side. Obviously the hero of the night is Branislav Ivanović, who managed to push a header into the net before the whistle was blown for the end of regulation. Benfica will regret the sloppy defensive tagging on the last corner and Óscar Cardozo will wish he could have connected with his last chance right before the final whistle. Cardozo had a great match with plenty of opportunities and will wish he had a few of them back. For the Blues Fernando Torres's excellence in the second half was a turning point for the match and his goal neutralized the advantage that Benfica had seemed to have. Now Chelsea have the distinct honor of having been the only club to win all European cups and will have defended their Champions League title of 2012 to some extent. The side from Portugal will certainly continue to grow from the painful loss and return next year as a dangerous side. Chelsea are simply waiting to get their name engraved on the trophy so they can celebrate in style. Good night football fans! What a great European League final!

Goooal for Chelsea FC, 1:2 by Branislav Ivanović
Chelsea has done it again! If anyone can remember the Champions League final of 2012 this was the exact same action! Ivanović climbs a ladder over the entire Benfica defence from the left side of the penalty box and heads the ball towards the far rightcorner. There is no chance for the keeper to save the shot as it rolls along the netting onto the ground. Benfica will be heartbroken!
90'
Chelsea earn a corner with about a minute left to play in regular time.
90'
Three minutes left to play.
90'
With just a few minutes left in play, both trainersmay want to start thinking about the next phase of the match. Chelsea has yet to use a substitute so Benetiz will have plenty of fresh players to look to.
89'
Frank Lampard with a brilliant shot off the post! The midfielder has a bit of time about 25 meters from goal and rips a right footed shot that deflects off of the upper left corner. It was technically beautiful and there was nothing that Moraes would have been able to do against the effort. Unfortunate for Chelsea fans, they could have won it there.
87'
Not a bad idea from Azpilicueta as the ball falls to him about 20 meters out. His shot, which rolls, with little tempo, towards Moraes was not really dangerous but if he had taken it better it may have been.
85'
Ramires makes a great run by himself into the middle of the box, he tries to cross it into the middle for his teammates but it is well deflected out of bounds by the SLB defense.
83'
Benfica look hungry in this closing phase! After a few chances on goal, highlighted by Cardozo's and two corners they come away empty handed.
82'
Cardozo who's finally made his way back onto the pitch with a brilliant shot! He connects with the outside of his left foot but Petr Čech is able to get his fingertips on the ball and lift it over the crossbar.
81'
Yet another Chelsea player is thrown to the ground in the penalty area. Gaitán is lucky the whistle stays down but there may not have been enough contact.
79'
Just 11 minutes to play in regulation. Will there be a winner in 90 minutes or do both teams need more time to sort out who will raise the Europa League trophy?
78'
Substitution (in) SL Benfica -> Jardel
78'
Substitution (out) SL Benfica -> Ezequiel Garay
77'
Garay, the argentine, looks to be in quite some pain but can manage to walk himself off the pitch to get treatment but his night is finished.
75'
Fernando Torres is brought down in the penalty area. The Chelsea fans call for a penalty but Torres will, deservingly, be ignored by the officlas. Now Ezequiel Garay is getting medical attention in the box.
72'
Benfica are still playing with 10 men as Cardozo continues to receive treatment from the medical staff.
71'
What a way to answer from a team looking for their first trophy in 50 years! This match has gotten much more interesting in a blazing second half.
68'
Goooal for SL Benfica, 1:1 by Óscar Cardozo
Just like that the portuguese side is back in it! Cardozo is able to beat Čech, as the english side's keeper dives left and Cardozo puts it in the middle. He looks to have cramped up after the score and takes a moment to get water.
67'
Penalty is given to Benfica! What a decision against the Blues. Cardoza at the spot.
66'
Substitution (in) SL Benfica -> Ola John
66'
Substitution (out) SL Benfica -> Lorenzo Melgarejo
66'
Substitution (in) SL Benfica -> Lima
66'
Substitution (out) SL Benfica -> Rodrigo Moreno
65'
The english side have truly turned the entire match. The body language from some of the portuguese players is telling, but there is plenty of talent on this Benfica side.
63'
Now the portuguese side are going to have to put all those brilliant chances earlier into the back of Petr Čech's net. With less than 30 minutes left, the losing team will have to hurry.
61'
Luisão (SL Benfica) is shown a yellow card
Torres seems to have waken up and is forced to the ground by Luisão as he nears the penalty box.
59'
Goooal for Chelsea FC, 0:1 by Fernando Torres
This game has finally seen a goal! Ironically from one of the players who has little to say in the competition until this point. Petr Čech tosses a pass forward to Mata who flicks it on to Torres. The forward is able to outrun his opponent and beats Artur by pushing the ball to the right of a diving Artur Moreas and slicing a shot with his right foot into the wide open net. An excellent run from the striker and he is totally rewarded for it.
58'
A very impressive phase for Chelsea lead by Mata and Oscar on the left flank! The Blues don't see their exceptional play rewarded by anything but it may bring them a bit more confidence to make things happen on the offensive end.
56'
Oscar's run into the box is rewarded by a low, well-paced pass from Ramires, the english side see another corner headed away from danger and eventually gathered up by Moreas.
55'
Chelsea are rewarded their first free kick, which is well delivered by Mata but his delivery leads to nothing for the Blues.
53'
The line judge had to have amazing eyes to catch the offsides by Cardozo. He was a hair in front of the last defender so it was justly called.
51'
Great chance for Cardozo as he beats Gary Cahill to the pass in the box, he finds help but the shot is deflected for Benfica's corner. Cardozo sees his header bulge in the back of the net but it won't count, the offsides flag is raised.
50'
Nicolás Gaitán with an effort towards goal. He doesn't hit the ball well and watches it sail wide left of the post.
49'
Both clubs have been pushed on by their fans but it's clear that Portugal has upped and moved itself into the Amsterdam Arena for this event. Even after a 50 year drought the fans have faith in their club.
47'
A great cross by Salvio and if any of his teammates had gotten their head to it, it may have easily been a goal. The team from Lisbon have quickly reintroduced themselves to their opponents.
46'
At least 45 minutes left to play!

Halftime Summary:
It has been an engaging first half of the Europa League final. SLB came into the match very quickly and did well to control tempo in the beginning phases. They will be disappointed that their efforts didn't see a goal scored, as it may come back to haunt them. Cardozo and Gaitán had efforts in front of the net and couldn't do enough to put their side in front. For Chelsea, they will be content with their play, although the attempts were not as frequent as their opponents, they had good efforts. Frank Lampard will be proud of his slicing, bending shot that gave trouble to Artur Moraes and try to build off of that. Oscar also showed flashes but was unable to find the final pass or shot for his club. The second half will be starting after a brief break and if it is anything like the first it's a can't miss!
45'
End of first half
45'
Ezequiel Garay (SL Benfica) is shown a yellow card
Oscar manages to get his foot on the ball after a bit of a misunderstanding by the portuguese defense and is tugged to the ground by Garay.
45'
And there's only one minute left to be played.
45'
One minute and stoppage time left in this first half.
43'
Cardozo earns a corner for his side after trying to launch a header towards goal.Chelsea does well to clear the danger but they cannot gain possession from their opponents.
41'
Now Benfica have plenty to worry about in the back line. Their opponents have been able to add a bit of creativity to their efforts and it has made the match truly a battle. Chelsea look much mor capable on the offensive end and it has slowed the portuguese's advances.
38'
Frank Lampard with a beautiful effort! He manages to find some room and Moraes is unable to step to the ball properly. Fortunately his reactions are top class and his right hand deflects the ball out of bounds. Chelsea's first corner of the match comes to nothing.
36'
In spite of the numerous offensive efforts from the team in red, Chelsea fans will be content with the the match thus far. They have been in this situation numerous times before and know how to win despite being outplayed.
34'
This time Gaitán! He tries to curve a shot into the upper right corner from the outside of his right foot. It was was a good idea but a simpler effort may have done better for him and his team.
33'
Óscar Cardozo has a free kick at right around 25 meters deflected well against the Blues' wall. Lampard is a bit sloppy with the header but he finds a way to get the ball to the hands of Čech who has been a security blanket of sorts for his club.
31'
One has to think if Benfica continue to play this way they will be rewarded with a goal. Although the englanders have certainly improved their playing, there has been a lot of creativity on the offensive end from the portuguese.
29'
Petr Čech has had plenty of action in the first third of the match, he is once again called upon to clear up a mess in the Chelsea box. The attacks from Benfica are as dangerous as always but the english side has been able to limit their frequency.
27'
Mata forces Artur Moraes into a deflection as he launches a shot towards the goal from a free kick near the right sideline. The english side have increased both their defensive and offensive intensity.
25'
Oscar launches a free kick into the box, a rare event for the english side to this point, but it is well defended. Slowly but surely Chelsea look to be coming into the match.
22'
The portuguese fans are letting Chelsea hear it for their slow, rather uneventful style of play. Until this point, Benítez's club has looked uninspired.
20'
The first twenty minutes have a feeling of last year's Champions League final. Chelsea are completely content with playing an ugly form of football and preventing the opposition from winning the match.
18'
Accordingly the Blues have tried to slow the tempo of the match, and it has seen them gather a bit more possession. The 2012 Champions League winners are still trying to find themselves in a match that their opponents were clearly prepared for.
16'
Once again Chelsea look completely confused. After deflecting here and their in the penalty area, the danger is finally cleared away from the english box but if this continues, it will not be long before the Londoners are behind.
14'
Oscar (Chelsea FC) is shown a yellow card
Oscar forced to bring down a sprinting opponent to slow the Benfica break. This is truly inspiring play from the Águias!
13'
A second dangerous effort from SL Benfica! This time from Gaitán after a flurry of beautiful passes between the team in the Chelsea penalty area. The Blues are leaving too much room in their back line.
11'
The first real effort from Benfica! Cardozo gathers himself in the middle of the box, turns and shoots towards Petr Čech but his effort is deflected away by good defensive positioning. Benfica look the better side to this point.
9'
A nice run by the youngster Oscar and he's delivered a beautiful floating ball over the defense that is just a few paces faster than he is. It would have been a one on one had he coralled the pass but it comes to nothing for the Blues.
7'
Matić loses his balance and brings down Ramires near midfield. The Chelsea plazer has to be taken care for a few moments before returning to the action. Matić doesn't receive yellow because it looks as if he simply stumbled on the pitch, bringing his opponent down in the process.
5'
The portuguese side have traveled well to the Amsterdam Arena and their team has seemed to respond nicely. In the opening phases of the match it has been Benfica with the most dangerous advances towards goal but nothing truly harmful for the english side.
3'
Óscar Cardozo gets his head to a will delivered pass into the box but it floats innocently over Petr Čech's box. He will look to use his size to have more of those opportunities throughout.
2'
A nice skirmish at midfield has started in the first few minutes with neither club able to control the game's tempo early.
1'
SL Benfica starts up the action in this exciting final!
1'
Beginning
Björn Kuipers and his assistants Sander van Roekel, and Erwin Zeinstra will be responsible for officiating this final tonight in Amsterdam Arena.
The Blues will certainly be the favorite coming into the match but the Águias cannot be intimidated by such frivolities. Without question it will be a well fought match with plenty of action as both teams try to make a statement to the rest of Europe that they are a club that needs to be respected in the coming season. Kickoff is in just a few moments away and there's little left to be talked about until the ball gets rolling in this Europa League final!
The portuguese side will try to use this evening as a springboard to their Champions League journey in the coming season. The final, which will be played at Benfica's Estadio da Luz, would be a fitting place for the SL Benfica to finish their resurgence as one of the top teams in Europe. Of course the journey will be ambition, and they will have to get past a tough Chelsea team before this hope can even start, but they will be ready to reached the form the club had in the 1960s and 70s.
Benfica will look to challenge Chelsea's keeper Petr Čech early and often. Center forwards Óscar Cardozo and Lima are very capable of scoring and will be ready to put pressure on Chelsea's back line from the beginning. Of course Čech is a world class keeper and has expressed his motivation to win the Europa League even if he has no desire to play in it after this season. After nine years with the Blues, his expectations for this Chelsea club are high. Fernando Torres has also had plenty of success scoring in European League matches. After a rather unflattering year, Torres has been the top scorer in the competition for his side and will surely try to add to his tally in this important final.
If Chelsea win tonight they will make history as the first club to hold both the Europa and Champions League trophies at the same time. It is enough to motivate the club, and coupled with the injury to their captain will sure to drive the Londoners. On the other hand, Benfica will be looking to make a bit of history themselves. 1962 was the last European trophy the Portuguese side were allowed to celebrate winning and they will look to break the streak tonight.
The last time these two clubs met will be fresh on each trainer's mind. In Benfica's 2012 Champions League campaign, they faced the London side in the quarter-finals. Both legs belonged to the Blues, and the Portuguese side became only one of Chelsea's numerous victims on their way to Munich. This year's Chelsea squad is certainly not the same club that won the Champions League; with the departure of Didier Drogba and injury to John Terry younger, fresher legs will have to carry the english side. Perhaps Benfica's confidence will be lifted by the prospect of playing a younger, less experiences side than the 2012 version and will look to assert themselves after a crushing loss to FC Porto in league play that puts them one point out of first place in the Primeira Liga.
Amsterdam is sure to be rumbling tonight as the 2012 Champions League victors of Chelsea try and secure a trophy in major European competition two years in the running. Chelsea have had relatively good fortunes under trainer Rafael Benítez and with a bit of a rift growing between him and the club, it was important that Chelsea had success this season. The englanders will be returning to the Champions League in the coming season. The english side has been amazing in cup finals, winning seven of nine cups during Roman Abramovich's tenure as owner. Benfica on the other hand have lost the past six major European finals and will be trying to right the ship against a strong Chelsea team filled with veterans in Petr Cech, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard, who are used to winning in these situations.
Welcome! Tonight is yet another exciting match between two of Europe's finest. The Blues of Chelsea and Trainer Jorge Jesus's Benfiquistas. Stay tuned for more updates up through kickoff and then a live recurring of what is to be an epic Europa League final!
